Funkadeliciousness

I know I've been neglecting to post, and my guilt has started to creep up on me. I've been in a funk since my last post. I miss my husband and I'm just trying to get through life until he returns. My kids have decided to alter their bed times, so that really messes with my work schedule. I am usually very strict with their bed times, but it has become apparent that they needed to make a change that works better with their circadian rhythms. One I get my kids into bed, there are chores to do and I have to eat... by then I'm left with an hour or two before I have to hit the hay.

My day is now more peppered with work while child rearing, so I can sneak a little more work in rather than only working a couple hours a day. Hopefully soon I will have more stuff up in the store, so keep a look out!

What's on my needles: Chicken hats, ZOMG! Also, a custom project I can't talk about because it's a big secret! Also, more jewelry, and it has to do with roses!

I'd Like To Buy A Vowel, Please.

So, what is up with my cell phone's auto correct? I realize this is a relatively new technology, but I figure there has been enough time to at least get into the ball park of what a person was trying to say. The Freudian slips and random words inserted into our daily text messages have altered relationships and even brought on the creation of  DYAC (probably NSFW in many cases), a website dedicated to aforementioned mishaps. Not that there's anything wrong with that website. I personally can't help falling out of my chair from laughter every time I check out the website!

Sometimes these mistypes occur without the handy use of auto correct. I'm not talking a simple typo or five... I'm talking about complete, perfectly-spelled words that just don't make any sense! I didn't get much sleep last night and it appears I'm not alone in that, as several of my comrades have reported a similar lack of shut eye as well. I guess my brain doesn't work well before my beloved coffee (**see yesterday's post**) and on about four hours of sleep. I was typing a Gmail chat to my friend on my laptop and still couldn't manage to find the correct words to accurately convey my thoughts. You are all lucky that I'm typing this after my coffee otherwise my sentences might have random words that don't make sense... Which would be especially unhelpful if you haven't had your morning caffeine yet, either!

At this time I'd like to take the opportunity to give Verizon the 'ol *shaky fisty* for waking me up at 4:30AM to tell me I had a new text that should have been received yesterday morning!

An Ode To Coffee

Oh coffee, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways.... This morning I woke up in a daze and sat on the couch, blindly staring at this morning's Sesame Street episode of choice. I finally mustered up the effort to get myself some coffee and within my first cup I found a sunny day, free of fog! No, seriously, the clouds parted and the sun came out. I think I may have even heard an angel or two singing a chorus, though it did sound suspiciously like a song you'd hear Elmo sing...

How do you take your coffee? I prefer a nice bold roast, with stevia and sugar free flavored creamer. Speaking of which, they really should come up with more flavors than french vanilla, hazlenut and the occasional vanilla caramel.  I've got option envy!

I'm on cup #2 (also my final cup for the day) and all is right with the world, except for my husband still being deployed, of course.

Cheers!

You Wouldn't Believe Me If You Met Her

It's 1:15pm and I've just finished my fist meal of the day. I haven't even had my coffee yet! I crawled out of bed, did my customary weigh-in (let's be real, most of us do it!), did a quick grooming session and got to work. Today is Tuesday, and my son, the 2 year old, has speech therapy. This means that the state my house was in was simply unacceptable by my standards. I thought about having the coffee, so I got the coffee maker started up for some fresh brew.

Before that I had to make sure that my 4 year old was happy with her Sesame Street on. Then it was off to fix the kids breakfast, get my son out of bed and dressed, argue with the 4 year old about why a lid for her straw cup was appropriate and non-negotiable, organize toys, vacuum and scrub floors, explain to the 4 year old that the toys she has just strewn about was an affront to my cleanliness and that she should at least wait the standard 2 hours before making such a mess after her mother has just lovingly cleaned everything, fix the vacuum, switch to the next episode of Sesame Street, finish the vacuuming and then more arguing with the 4 year old about why I want her in regular clothes and not pajamas. At this point, she decides to just throw down and have a kicking and screaming fit.

The doorbell rings, I pop out to answer it and let the speech therapist in. I excuse myself and the little girl and suggest that she get dressed now that she sees that I wasn't making up the fact that we were going to have a visitor. Naturally, the 4 year old is perfectly behaved now that someone else is here, and is willing to dress in the original choice of outfit that I had suggested and she's been a perfect angel ever since. Brilliant.

These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things...

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens - Just kidding! Today I want to feature some of my favorite things in life. Sometimes those things had major conveniences to my life so they get the gold star for that! So, in no particular order:

Movies: I can get into just about any genre except maybe westerns. I am hoping some of you will agree with me when I say that when it comes to the filming of movies, nothing really compares to the writing and comedy of the 80's! Most of those movies had great plots, many of them were filled with wholesome entertainment, and there wasn't so much green screen stuff going on. Just looking at some of these old movie posters really evoke memories from my childhood. There are SO many more, but that would take up more space than I probably have on this blog:

Fashion: I will typically wear jeans and t-shirts when I am being casual. When I dress up, though, I prefer to wear something with a vintage look. Some of my favorites are Pinup Girl Clothing,  ModCloth and Stop Staring!. When I want something that looks like I just stepped off of the runway, you have to check out Couture Closet. What are some of your favorite places to shop?

Food: This is another topic I could discuss forever. Pretty much everyone I know has a favorite food of some sort! I have several favorites, fortunately! I love sushi, potatoes cooked in any way, fresh fruit (most kinds) and Indian food. I make a mean Chicken Tikka Masala from scratch! I know a lot of my friends are foodies themselves. What are your favorite foods?

Drive-thru pharmacies: Oh, thank heaven! When the weather outside is frightful or the children aren't so delightful, the drive-thru is SO much better than waiting in the store while you exhaust every last drop of energy to stop your children from destroying the candy or toy aisle! Why can't more stores have drive-thru service?

Non-drip sippy cups for kids: That one is pretty self-explanatory, isn't it?

I'll get into some of my other favorite things later! Leave some comments, I typically check emails and messages frequently throughout the day and I welcome any input you have!

Ciao!

The Single Army Wife

Okay, so my husband is on a deployment. He's only been gone since the end of February, but we (the kids and I) really feel the fact that he's not here with us. Every day at dinner time, the kids can count on a Skype session with Daddy. It's so nice to see his face on a daily basis! For the most part, I've been dealing with things fairly well. You know, the running of the household, taking care of the children 24/7 AND trying to run my own business, which is new... and takes a lot of effort to get started.... Digressing!

Last night, I was hauling up the trash and recycle bins from the bottom of the driveway. The house was quiet and the kids were asleep. I checked the mail and there was a handwritten letter from my husband. Just when I was starting to have a lonely night, I received that lovely letter. It made my heart swell and brought tears to my eyes to read those words. I felt comforted and appreciated.

Non-military people have a tougher time understanding what we spouses go through during deployments. This one is only 6 months long, but during the WWI era and beyond, deployments could last years. Marriages would end over deployments that long!

All things considered, I have it good. My mini house tornadoes are happy, healthy and want for nothing. Once a month, I will drive up to see family in Pennsylvania (a 10 hour drive!) for a week for a really nice change of pace. My house isn't quite as clean as I prefer it at all times, but if it was, I wouldn't have any time for anything else anyway!

This morning I raise my mug of coffee to the deployed troops: may you stay safe and come home to your loved ones swiftly. And to the military spouses of the deployed: may you be just crazy enough to get the job done, but not so crazy that people start questioning your judgement! Thank you all for your service! Opa, Salud, Slainte, Kanpai and all that!

Alright, back to the "grind"... dishes to do and floors to clean. Maybe some laundry in between the constant requests for snacks and something to drink, of course! Oh, and if I'm lucky, maybe I'll get some "work" done, too, but it all has to be done in time for my Word of Warcraft raid with the husband tonight!

Do you think I'll get maybe most of that done? Priorities.... *sigh*

Ohai, World!

Welcome to my little piece of bloggery! I plan to write about many different subjects, including but not limited to: Army life, knitting, sewing and other craftings-on, movies, music, fashion... I'll probably pepper that with some photography, interesting and funny things I find on the internet, and random and weird things found in my brain. I will do my best to post every day!

Ttys and all that....
